I don't know If I ever mentioned to you how much I love tarot. If I didn't let me go ahead and describe my feelings about Tarot to you. I have had the distinct pleasure of co-creating a best selling Tarot deck as an illustrator and I have even had the mystical experience of operating with the archetypal energies that are intrinsic in each card of the Tarot in my own life. With all this experience to share, I have come down to a few decks that have become staples in my repertoire. I will share them with you dear beginner and hopefully you will find as much depth and layered nuance to them as I have. Here they are in no particular order. 1. The Rider Waite - I recommend the Rider Waite as a good beginner deck because it has all you will need to become fluent and comfortable with reading the Tarot. When I started out I didn't have this deck... I really wish I had because it is a great foundation for all of the practical, esoteric, metaphysical, as well as the symbolic knowledge you will need. The Rider Waite is also what I like to think of as the parent deck to nearly all modern decks. in that most Tarot decks on the shelves of your favorite metaphysical/ spiritual shop are patterned after the R/W. Also it bears mentioning that this deck has tons and tons of resource books, video's and courses out there for you to learn from. 2. The Shadowscape - I can't begin to tell you just how beautiful this deck is. It swirls and twirls and whirls with flowing colors. The images are whimsical and easy to read intuitively. Where the Rider deck relies heavily on traditional symbolism to deliver its messages, the Shadowscape Tarot offers you a very intuitive experience. The only caution I would offer a new reader is that the art work makes everything so beautiful that it can sometimes obscure the mode of the card. In other words, some of the more challenging cards in the Tarot could be misinterpreted by someone just starting out because they are so damn pretty it's hard to think of them as difficult. Over all this is a deck that I absolutely love and recommend to beginners and pro's alike. 3. The Gilded Tarot - This deck is exquisitely illustrated. Because the art in these cards so closely follow the Rider Waite its a good deck to have because you will find it easy to read and that the equilibrium between the symbols and the artistic rendering is expertly balanced. I also like this deck for beginners because the art is gorgeous to look at but also clear enough that you don't have to work hard to identify the card and it's meaning. I like how this deck honors the traditional structure of the Rider Waite deck while adding in an astrological flavor that enhances the depth of meaning in the deck. Going forward - When you purchase your first deck or even if one is gifted to you, don't think you have to learn everything all at once. Tarot is a bottomless well of learning, there are so many things that will unfold before you as you grow as a reader. I encourage you to take your time and learn the cards one by one as each card has it's own story to tell. If you give yourself time to absorb the information in the cards, you will see just how intricate and developed the story of each cards is. Hey Masterbuilder, The Moon travels into Aries today which is the first sign of the zodiac. The Ram and the Moon share space from Friday the 13th to Monday the 16th of April. My love, NOW is the time to let go of your fears... take the goat by the horns and get sh!t done. The Moon wants you to tap into your instincts and stop over thinking and Aries wants you to initiate and get things going. These two energies are invigorating after such a looong, long time spent feeling like you are going nowhere fast. On the 13th there is a balancing effect of the Moon Semisextile Sun. This aspect brings a sense of  harmony between your innermost and outer selves. How you see yourself and how you feel will become more aligned; helping you to feel more comfortable in your own skin. Dearest, this influence will assisst you in feeing more in tune with the vision you hold for your future. Making you remember that you are capable and deserving of the rewards your vision will bring you. The personally magnetizing influence of the Moon combined with the Sun, urge you to reveal your true self, I think you will find that that being who you are and feeling good about it is the gift offered you... so take it and grow. On the 14th the Moon conjunct Mercury unites your intellect and your emotions so that it is very easy for you to become emotionally bonded to people and even places, helping you to create fond memories. When Moon conjuncts Mercury you may find that you will have an opportunity to make new friends or perhaps invite old ones back in your life. People who you can nurture a truly close and genuine bond with. It will become increasingly easy for you to speak the truth of your heart. Just remember to be mindful and speak with compassion as you are planting a seed to harvest one day with every word you say. Also on the 15th, you and I will share a new moon. In astronomy, the new moon is the first lunar phase, when the Moon and Sun have the same ecliptic longitude. At this phase, the lunar disk is darkened and not visible to the naked eye, except when silhouetted during a solar eclipse. What is interesting my love, is that the new Moon is happening in the sign of Aries which makes it extra fun. Why you ask? Because the New Moon offers us a window of opportunity to lay the foundations of a new project or endeavor. Aries loves to pioneer, and channel its thrusting energy into the world. So, If you combine those two enterprising energies, your ambitions will be super charged with just the right formula to make major changes better than possible. One more thing befire you go - Mercury stations direct on the 15th as well. Yaaay for our planetary ruler of communication getting its sh!t together and acting like a grown up again.  I don't know about you but I think this has been one of the worst Mercury retrogrades in a looooong time. You know with all the electronic havoc and what not. Thankfully, you should see a semblance of normal return to your world in the next couple of days. You should be able to talk to people and not sound like you hit your head. Your electronics will do what you bought them to do... you know simple tasks like making a phone call or reading my blog. (yeah that was shameless wasn't it :) ) Best of all you should be able to make deals and sign contracts with out worrying that you accidentally owe Satan your soul because you misunderstood the fine print.  Yes my love, breathe a sigh of relife we are going to be just fine. Pro tip: Over all this is a good time to get in touch with your innermost desires. Be honest with yourself and accept that you are a powerfully creative being. You can author great victories as easily as staggering defeats by your will. Take stock of all of your strengths, weaknesses and everything in between and when you have a full inventory of who you are now, use this energy to create who you will be tomorrow. Hey Sweet Heart, I know it has been rough lately but our Moon glides into the sign of Pisces and stays there From April 11th to the 13th. Intuition is strong and feelings are more sensitive during this periods. This is a time when compassion, love and sympathy will be on the surface of your thoughts. It will be of great benefit to others around you. The planetary co- rulers of Pisces are Neptune and Jupiter, they each contribute something special to this Moon's transit. Jupiter is sort of the cosmic Santa that offers bounty and blessings to all those that are in its beneficial path. Neptune shares its feminine energy and is known as the higher octave of Venus and is the second of the transcendental planets. Don't be surprised if you feel your heart chakra opening wider and your well of compassion becoming deeper and filled with generous benevolence. Darling, we all need love and tender care right now and the Moon shines her light on the stream of consciousness that ferries our thoughts and feelings from the secret places within our hearts out into the open. Hey Love Bug, After a rough couple of days it's nice for the Moon to enter Scorpio. From April 1st to the 4th the Moon stays in the transformative company of Scorpio bringing with it powerful emotions and intense moments of intuition. Scorpio has a deep and imponderable nature, in the case of this sign, still waters really do run deep. Like water, the Scorpionic energy is like a force of nature compelling you toward your ultimate destination. Don't be surprised if you feel even more passionate or even a bit more willful while the Scorpion holds court with the Moon. Scorpio rules the 8th house. Legacy, inheritance and your attitudes about change, death and rebirth. If your thoughts have been lingering around what you will give to the world that will be worth remembering, then you may not want to ask yourself what gifts you have. Instead, you might do well to ask what to do with the gifts you possess. Hey Grumpy Pants, The full Moon takes residence in the sign of Libra from March 30th to April 1st. Libra rules the 7th house of relationships and is ruled by Venus the planet of love and beauty. Also, Libra is interested in seeking equality in relationships through using diplomacy. But you might not see to much diplomacy this time around. However seeking diplomacy will be rather important, as you may be feeling a bit of internal stress or strain as you attempt to get your needs met. Trust me my dear speaking your mind will need to be done deftly to avoid creating more difficulty between you and a loved one. We all want our needs met so try to use calm tones and open arms even when you are met with resistance. We are also under the influence of a very full and energetic blue moon. With so much energy targeting communication... you know, with Mercury in Retrograde and a full moon in Libra and also a moon in opposition with Mercury your thoughts and feelings could literally feel like they are at war. This may result in some pretty intense misunderstandings. Additionally we have a Saturn square Moon to deal with... Oh yeah that's fun. I'm sure you can tell I'm being sarcastic. So the influence of a Saturn square Moon is going to be heavy to say the least. If you feel sad, moody or even a bit depressed, now you have something to blame. It will pass darling, I promise. Just do your best not to dwell on what you're not thrilled with. Remember, what you focus on expands so redirect your focus so you don't expand misery. To help it all pass a little easier I invite you to treat yourself and everyone you come in contact with loads of compassion.
