Larimar

Hi! You found me!

Just looking at larimar brings peace to my soul. It’s undulating turquoise and white colors. They are so beautiful to look at because they seem to hold within them the spirit of the oceans. It’s soft cool colors seems to mimic light touching the bottom of a sea bed. The first time I saw a piece of Larimar I thought it was plastic. It has this otherworldly quality to it that makes it beautiful and unusual, the watery quality it has is mesmerizing. Larimar is found only in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. With it’s blues and whites Larimar has a liquid like quality to it. The more intense the blue and white contrasts are within the stone, the rarer and higher its value. It is worth noting that the blue in Larimar is photosensitive and can fade over time if exposed to too much light or heat.

Larimar is known as the Dolphin stone as it is closely associated with the Cetacean world. It can also be found under the names Blue Pectolite, Atlantis Stone, and Stefilia's Stone.  It was first discovered in 1916, and was then named by a Dominican man who re-discovered it in 1974. He used the first letters of his daughter's name, Larissa, and the Spanish word for the sea, mar, creating Larimar.

Larimar is a perfect choice for mothers, during pregnancy and postpartum. It helps in recovery and diminishes postpartum depression, It also helps to reduce the stress experienced with new parenthood. Another wonderful tool for opening and protecting the throat chakra. With it’s cool blue tones Singers can use Larimar as a talisman for enhancing the power and protecting the voice.

Good for soothing tempers, Larimar is a good stone to carry if you or someone you know is prone to anger or is provoked easily. The cool soothing colors and soft vibration for the crystal helps in restoring emotional balance.

As you can tell, I love this stone. It’s so pretty and soothing, a must have for any collection. Post your pictures in the forum if you have one of these gems!
